The Lakshmipat Singhania-IIM, Lucknow, one of the top management institutes providing world-class education, has set up a centre for leadership and human values to promote leadership in the country. To recognize and honor individuals who have contributed consistently to the betterment of our country through their pursuit of excellence, IIM, Lucknow, has instituted “National Leadership Awards” in association with JK Organisation.

Late Shri Lakshmipat Singhania (1910-1976) was a visionary with strong nationalist fervor. He was one of the chief architects of the industrial and commercial group - J. K. Organisation. He pioneered many industries in India bringing to the Indian consumers various new products for the first time. He made the Indian business transnational even as early as 1950s. His leadership qualities were exemplary. He encouraged professionalism and meritocracy. He was associated with various institutions of business, education, research, technology and social sciences; heading many of them.

Shri Hari Shankar Singhania, President of J. K. Organisation is also currently Chairman, Board of Governors of IIML. He has been awarded Padma Bhushan. He is an eminent industrialist and is associated in a leadership role in many business organisations in India and abroad (including International Chamber of Commerce, Paris) as well as various industrial, educational and social organisations.

Criterion for Selection
Nominee should:

be a resident of India (NRI/Foreigners excluded),
have fundamental leadership values,
have shown exemplary performance and contributed towards development in his/her field for the larger goal of Society and Nation building,
have shown excellence despite challenges,
have high personal values and ethics,
be innovative and supportive in his/her field,
have contributed towards the positive evolution of government policies and have the ability to establish balance of forces operating in his/her connected field in the country,
not be active in Politics, Films and Sports (as they already have multiple recognitions),
any other differentiator deemed appropriate by the Advisory Committees/the Jury.
The nominee for the Young Leader category should be a person below 50 years of age, who has shown exemplary performance, recognised in the country, with potential to reach the pinnacle in the years to come.


The Process

Call for Nominations from electoral college and through the media.
Scrutiny of the names and short listing by Advisory Committees comprising knowledgeable persons in the respective fields.
Final short-listed names along with recommendations of the Advisory Committees to be viewed by the Jury comprising of Peers and Illuminaries drawn from different segments of society.
Final decision of the Jury for one winner in each category.
